Doheny Eye Institute Once Again Ranks in the Top 5 Ophthalmology Programs by U.S. News & World Report

Setting standards and being at the forefront of innovation in ophthalmology is second nature for the team at Doheny Eye Institute and Doheny Eye Center UCLA. That’s why we are proud to once again be ranked among the Top 5 Best Ophthalmology Hospitals alongside UCLA Stein Eye Institute by U.S. News & World Report.

Doheny has been included in this list as one of the Top 10 Best Ophthalmology Hospitals each year since the list began in 1993, and in the Top 5 since our affiliation with UCLA Stein in 2013. The rating is based on the expert opinion of physicians and ophthalmology specialists across the country who vote for the top institutions — they again rated Doheny as among the best institutions for patients with challenging treatment needs.

This ranking reflects the continued groundbreaking research and collaboration among the foremost vision scientists and clinician-scientists affiliated with Doheny – united in the shared goal of conserving, preserving and restoring vision. As a model of excellence in ophthalmology, Doheny continues to build upon that legacy as its talented and dedicated team looks ahead to the future.

We thank all of the physicians and ophthalmology specialists across the U.S. who voted; we appreciate your continued support.

We also are greatly appreciative of every member of the Doheny team who contribute in outstanding ways every day to help achieve our mission and remain a leader in vision science and education that informs patient care.

About Doheny Eye Institute

In 1947, Carrie Estelle Doheny, wife of prominent Los Angeles entrepreneur and oilman Edward L. Doheny, created and funded what is now the Doheny Eye Institute as a center where doctors would help discover advanced treatments alongside scientists who would carry out pioneering research to prevent, treat, and cure vision disorders.

In 2013, Doheny Eye Institute and UCLA Stein Eye Institute created a unique affiliation. Doheny-affiliated researchers and physicians hold faculty appointments at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Doheny provides infrastructure and support for the research faculty and patient care is under the UCLA Health enterprise, known as Doheny Eye Center UCLA, with locations in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. At Doheny, translational medicine holds paramount importance as it bridges the gap between scientific discoveries and tangible improvements in healthcare. By seamlessly connecting laboratory research (the “bench”) with practical patient care (the “bedside”), translational medicine accelerates the transformation of promising scientific insights into innovative diagnostics, treatments, and therapies that directly benefit individuals around the world.
