Doheny 2017: 70 Years of Vision Research Leadership

09
February 2016
Dear Colleagues,

Doheny Eye Institute has an international reputation as a premier research and clinical institution. This is truly a golden age for vision research at Doheny. Now affiliated with the prestigious University of California, Los Angeles, and its Stein Eye Institute, the two vision centers boast a combined faculty of 67 ophthalmologists, representing a wide variety of specialties and research interests. This partnership holds great promise for our quest to find new cures and treatments for eye disease.

I would like to thank you for endorsing Stein and Doheny Eye Institutes, UCLA Medical Center in the annual rankings of best vision centers in the nation. Last year, we were ranked as the best in the west, and #5 in the nation in U.S. News & World Report. Please vote again this year at doximity.com.

At Doheny, 2016 will be a year of unprecedented growth. We are in the midst of developing a new research facility that will support our vision-scientists in their quest for new knowledge about the eye. Later this year we will be welcoming three new world-renowned faculty to our team. The Doheny Image Reading Center (DIRC), now in its second decade, will also welcome new leadership. I look forward to sharing updates about these exciting additions. You can learn more about our current faculty here.

I hope you will join us for the 47th Annual Doheny Days Conference, held this June 10-11 in Los Angeles. The conference will feature guest lecturers discussing the latest in vision research. Doheny Days is a great way for community ophthalmologists, residents, fellows and academic faculty to stay up to date on the latest information and earn continuing medical education credits. Doheny Days is one of the best ophthalmology meetings of its kind, and we are proud to carry on this tradition of excellence established by Stephen J. Ryan, MD, and Ronald E. Smith, MD. We will share more details in the coming weeks; and please see below for information about this year’s lecturers.

Doheny is approaching 70 years of leadership in ophthalmology. None of our achievements over the years would have been possible without the support and enthusiasm of colleagues like you. I look forward to seeing you at Doheny Days.

Best,

SriniVas R. Sadda, MD
President and CSO, Doheny Eye Institute
