ARVO 2016 Conference Wrap Up + Recognitions

Over the past week, many of our Doheny doctors and scientists gathered with fellow researchers from around the world in Seattle for the annual conference of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). It was a great opportunity for all of us to reconnect with our extended Doheny family of physicians and researchers who have gone on to do important work all over the globe.

I am pleased to let you know that our Doheny doctors and scientists gave over 40 presentations at ARVO on a wide range of topics, and in coming blogs I will share some of that work with you, along with other news regarding research on the frontiers of fighting eye disease.

As always, the scientific exchange at ARVO was meaningful. I also greatly appreciated the week for the many opportunities to re-connect with colleagues. I do think research moves forward based on good science, yes, but also on the relationships we cultivate across the globe with our colleagues working on the same problems and treatments.

Our Doheny doctors were also recognized at ARVO for their outstanding contributions. Our colleague Alex Huang was the 2016 recipient of the Heidelberg Engineering Xtreme Research Award for his work in OCT angiography; and Amir Hariri was recognized with an early career Clinician Scientist Research Award for his work on age-related macular degeneration. We are most fortunate to have a team of leading experts, thinkers and researchers in ophthalmology today at Doheny.
