Los Angeles, CA, January 3, 2023 – Doheny-UCLA researcher, Kaustabh Ghosh, PhD, has been awarded the Catalyst Award from Research to Prevent Blindness, a nonprofit organization created in 1960 by Jules Stein, the founder of Music Corporation of America, to stimulate research to eliminate blinding diseases. The Catalyst Award aims to provide support to researchers who are working on novel approaches targeting age-related macular degeneration (AMD) research that has translational potential. The award will provide up to $300,000, payable over 3 years, to support Dr. Ghosh’s research in AMD, the leading cause of vision loss for Americans age 50 and older. The disease affects central vision, where sharpest vision occurs, causing difficulty conducting daily tasks such as driving, reading, and recognizing faces.
