Bio:
Gulab S. Zode, PhD, is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at the University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on understanding the cellular mechanisms that drive glaucoma, with particular interest in ER stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, autophagy, and cellular stress responses in the trabecular meshwork and retinal ganglion cells. His laboratory uses genetic models, human ocular tissues, and translational approaches to understand how these pathways contribute to elevated intraocular pressure and neurodegeneration. His work also focuses on developing new treatments for glaucoma, including gene-editing approaches and therapies aimed at restoring cellular and mitochondrial health.
