Doheny Eye Institute Re-Accredited to Provide Continuing Medical Education for Physicians
Doheny Eye Institute is proud to announce that it has once again been re-accredited to provide Continuing Medical Education (CME) for physicians, continuing a tradition of excellence that began on November 27, 1979. This achievement reaffirms Doheny’s commitment to advancing clinical knowledge, raising the standard of eye care, and supporting the physicians who care for patients across our local and regional communities.
Under the leadership of Benjamin Bert, MD, FACS, Medical Director of the Doheny CME Program, our educational offerings continue to grow in depth, relevance, and impact. Dr. Bert’s work ensures that Doheny’s programming remains aligned with current scientific advances and the real-world needs of practicing ophthalmologists.
“Maintaining accreditation requires a lot of effort, organization, and planning. We are lucky to have Doheny’s support throughout these efforts. The ability for us to provide CME credits to attendees of our CME activities speaks to the quality of educational content we are delivering to the local community and across the country.”
– Benjamin Bert, MD, FACS
Doheny currently hosts two annual specialty symposia — one focused on glaucoma and the other on retina — bringing together leading clinician-scientists to discuss emerging treatments, diagnostic technologies, and best practices. We also coordinate a multispecialty course in the spring that rotates among cornea, cataract, refractive surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, uveitis, and oculoplastics, depending on the areas where physicians most need updated guidance. These programs create meaningful opportunities for ophthalmologists throughout Southern California and beyond to stay current in a rapidly evolving field.
Re-accreditation is a rigorous process requiring detailed documentation, outcomes measurement, and significant administrative coordination. Successfully completing this process speaks to Doheny’s dedication not only to scientific excellence but also to maintaining the highest standards in medical education.
Looking ahead, Doheny remains committed to offering high-quality education that equips clinicians to diagnose earlier, treat more effectively, and preserve vision for the patients and families they serve. This renewed accreditation reflects our dedication to sharing expertise, cultivating learning, and strengthening the broader eye-care community.
