At their May meeting, the Luminaires Founder Chapter presented Doheny Eye Institute with the proceeds raised from their annual spring gala. A generous check for $137,000 was presented to Marissa Goldberg, CEO of Doheny Eye Institute, in support of Doheny’s mission to advance vision research.

For over 50 years, the Luminaires have been constant supporters of Doheny. Most recently, they welcomed over 200 guests this past March for “An Afternoon on La Cote d’Azure,” this year’s theme for their benefit at the Jonathan Club.

The unwavering support of the Luminaires is greatly appreciated by Doheny. Their generosity helps fund important, innovative vision research and we sincerely thank all of the Luminaires, both past and present.

Celebrating the Opening of Doheny Eye Center UCLA Pasadena

On June 11, 155 guests gathered to mark another significant milestone of the Doheny-UCLA affiliation: the opening of Doheny Eye Center UCLA Pasadena on the Doheny Eye Institute campus. While the state-of-the-art clinic first opened its doors to patients back in February, this most recent event served as the official celebration for the clinic’s new location.

Leadership from Doheny and UCLA that were in attendance to commemorate this momentous occasion included:

  • Marissa Goldberg, CEO, Doheny Eye Institute
  • Tom Foscue, Chairman, Doheny Eye Institute Board of Directors
  • Anne Coleman, MD, PhD, Director, UCLA Stein Eye Institute, Chair and Executive Medical Director, UCLA Department of Ophthalmology, and Affiliation Chair, Doheny Eye Institute
  • Joaquin (Quim) Madrenas, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine and Vice Dean for Faculty, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

We look forward to many more years of partnership with UCLA and are eager to see the many fruitful possibilities that will arise by bringing the expert clinical care teams under the same roof as the brilliant Doheny research teams.

Doheny Celebrates Our Generous Donors

Doheny was thrilled to welcome nearly 50 guests at the Valley Hunt Club for the annual Planned Giving Luncheon. Held on May 29, the occasion served as an opportunity to thank our Circle of Caring members and other generous donors for their support, as well as to provide an update on research at Doheny and discuss current trends in philanthropic planning. The gathering began at Doheny’s campus, where we offered guided tours of the facility. Our guests had the opportunity to see the impacts of their contributions in action – from the labs where groundbreaking research takes place, the state-of-the-art equipment that supports the work of our scientists, and the beautiful campus that serves as a beacon of collaboration and excellence in ophthalmology and vision research.

Following the tours, the group moved over to the Valley Hunt Club for a luncheon full of delicious food and lively conversation, and heard from our two fabulous speakers.

Speakers included:

  • Alfredo A. Sadun, MD, PhD, Chief of Ophthalmology, Doheny Eye Centers/UCLA and Vice Chair and Professor of Ophthalmology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and holds the Flora Thornton Endowed Chair of Vision Research.
  • Henri L. Cancio-Fitzgerald, CTFA, CAP, the national managing director of Nonprofit Strategy and Solutions for PNC Institutional Asset Management.

It was a wonderful opportunity to gather together with our most dedicated supporters and show our appreciation for all they do to support our mission to further the conservation, improvement, and restoration of human eyesight.
