From May 4-8, 2025, nearly 11,000 vision researchers and ophthalmologists from 74 countries gathered in Salt Lake City for The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Annual Meeting. Themed, “i3: Imagining Innovation and Intelligence in Vision Science,” the meeting focused on advancements in AI, CRISPR, and other revolutionary technologies that are shaping the future of vision science.

This annual gathering of the brightest minds in vision research is an incredible opportunity for Doheny to share its groundbreaking research, collaborate with others in the field, and share knowledge with the goal of furthering advancements in detection and treatment of the numerous diseases that cause vision impairment and blindness.

Doheny once again had a highly visible presence at ARVO. In addition to the shared Doheny-UCLA ARVO Expo booth, the two institutes again joined forces to host events and boasted numerous scientists and clinician-scientists who were selected to present research throughout the conference.

As the 2024-2025 President of ARVO, SriniVas Sadda, MD, FARVO, had a leading role in planning this year’s meeting and guiding its theme. He was a constant presence throughout the multi-day scientific conference, including the opening keynote and research presentations highlighting his research lab’s latest findings.

Doheny and UCLA kicked off their ARVO presence on May 4 with the annual Doheny-UCLA Breakfast Forum. Tying into this year’s conference theme, the forum focused on “Oculomics: Accelerating Discovery of Systemic Disease Mechanism” – exploring the intersection of cutting-edge ophthalmic imaging and the future of medicine.
