We’re proud to share that Dr. Vikas Chopra, a leading glaucoma specialist at Doheny Eye Institute, has been selected for two major leadership roles in national vision organizations.

Dr. Chopra has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Board of Ophthalmology—the organization that oversees certification for eye doctors across the country. In this role, he’ll help shape the future of eye care by helping design and guide the rigorous exams that ophthalmologists must pass to prove their expertise. He’ll also lead efforts to improve how doctors deliver safe, high-quality care.

In addition, Dr. Chopra has been named Chair of the Glaucoma Panel for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Technology Assessment Committee. In this role, he’ll work with fellow experts to carefully evaluate new and existing eye care technologies—making sure they’re backed by strong scientific evidence and truly help patients.

Dr. Ferrington was joined on the panel by representatives from several of Southern California’s leading institutions: Nirdesh Gupta, PhD, Managing Director of Cedars-Sinai Technology Ventures; Denica Moodley, MPH, Director of Operational Transformation and Innovation at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles; and Joe W. The Life Science Forum brings together approximately 200 regional stakeholders each year to highlight the latest developments driving innovation in Los Angeles’ life sciences sector. The conference underscores the economic vision of regional leaders, showcases emerging startups launched from academic institutions, and emphasizes the importance of workforce development in improving health outcomes and regional competitiveness.

Doheny’s participation on the panel provided an opportunity to spotlight the institute’s pioneering research and its impact on patients living with vision loss and eye disease.
