SriniVas R. Sadda, MD, FARVO, Alfredo A. Sadun, MD, PhD, and Michael S. Ip, MD, Named to the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Leaders of Influence: LA’s Top Doctors 2025

Each year, the Los Angeles Business Journal Leaders of Influence: LA’s Top Doctors spotlights local medical professionals from a broad array of disciplines who are at the top of their field. We are proud to share that three Doheny Eye Institute clinician scientists have been named to the 2025 list: Dr. SriniVas R. Sadda, Dr. Alfredo A. Sadun, and Dr. Michael S. Ip.

Dr. Sadda is the director of artificial intelligence and imaging research at Doheny, professor of ophthalmology at the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine, and holds the A. Ray Irvine, Jr., MD, Endowed Chair. His major research interests include retinal image analysis, advanced retinal imaging technologies, and clinical trial endpoint design, and he remains among the world’s foremost experts on the retina. He has more than 800 peer-reviewed publications and 20 book chapters and has given over 450 presentations worldwide. Dr. Sadda’s research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for several years, including a current R01 grant from the National Eye Institute. He currently serves as president of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).

Dr. Sadun is a world-renowned expert in ophthalmology who has made significant contributions to his field by using both his MD and PhD training, with more than 400 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Sadun’s research has centered on the clinical, psychophysical and laboratory studies of diseases of the optic nerve. He has led pioneering efforts to help create the new science of mitochondrial ophthalmology, changing the way many optic neuropathies are now treated. In the 1980s, Dr. Sadun was the first to describe the nine anatomical pathways between the eye and the brain in humans including the retinal projection to the hypothalamus for the visual entrainment of the circadian rhythm.

Dr. Ip currently serves as the Gavin S. Herbert endowed chair for macular degeneration and as medical director of the Doheny Image Reading Center at Doheny Eye Institute. His research interest focuses on the design and conduct of clinical trials investigating treatments for diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal venous occlusive disease and other retinal diseases. Previously, as the co-director of the Fundus Photograph Reading Center, he assisted with the collection, analysis, and dissemination of important primary and secondary outcomes in ophthalmic clinical trials. Dr. Ip has served both as a clinical site investigator and on advisory boards and writing committees.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Sadda, Dr. Sadun and Dr. Ip for this prestigious recognition, a testament to the important, and outstanding, contributions that our internationally-renowned scientists bring to vision research and the field of ophthalmology.
