We are pleased to welcome Michael Gilhooley, MD, PhD, to Doheny Eye Center UCLA in Pasadena. A specialist in neuro-ophthalmology and adult strabismus, Dr. Gilhooley brings a rare combination of clinical precision and scientific innovation to his practice.
Dr. Gilhooley trained in the United Kingdom at world-renowned institutions, including the University of Oxford and University College London, where he earned his PhD and completed a decade of ophthalmic clinical and research training. His work has focused on advancing vision restoration techniques and understanding inherited optic nerve disorders—experience that translates directly to improved diagnostics and personalized treatment plans for his patients.
A former surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital and recent clinical fellow at the University of Colorado, Dr. Gilhooley is also widely published, with research spanning optogenetics, retinal ganglion cell biology, and transcriptomics. His editorial roles with the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology and European Journal of Ophthalmology keep him at the forefront of emerging advances in his field.
