Research Interests: My research interests center on testing novel endogenous and exogenous therapeutic agents using in vitro and in vivo models of dry AMD and subretinal fibrosis. A primary site of pathology in AMD is the retinal pigment epithelial cell (RPE). RPE biology and how RPE mitochondrial function is modulated during the onset and progression of the disease are of interest to our study. We test several peptides in the form of nanoparticles as potential therapeutics employing human polarized primary RPE cell monolayer cultures and animal models.

Research Interests: I am a clinician working in the Ophthalmology Department at the University in Japan. My research interest includes generating experimental models of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) and studying mechanisms of retinal detachment, particularly relating to EMT-MET transformation. I am also interested in studying prevention modalities in in vitro systems of human RPE cells and in in vivo models of late neovascular AMD, such as subretinal fibrosis and PVR.
