Annual Doheny Planned Giving Luncheon
On June 6, several of our esteemed donors and guests gathered at Doheny Eye Institute for a special luncheon. This annual event offered our guests the opportunity to learn more about Doheny’s Circle of Caring and the benefits of planned giving through their estate while supporting an organization they care about.
During the luncheon, CEO Marissa Goldberg and Chief Scientific Officer Deborah A. Ferrington, PhD, shared updates on the exciting research and developments taking place at Doheny. The afternoon culminated with a tour of the beautiful new campus in Pasadena where guests were able to see the research labs that are equipped to accelerate research and discovery in key areas including artificial intelligence (AI), immunology research, and imaging diagnostics.
Doheny is thankful for the generosity of our planned giving supporters who are members of Doheny’s Circle of Caring. By including Doheny in their estate plans, their gifts ensure that the important sight-saving research at Doheny continues to benefit future generations.

SriniVas Sadda, MD, was named 2023-2024 President-Elect of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
Steven Barnes, PhD, Principal Investigator at Doheny Eye Institute and Professor of Ophthalmology and Neurobiology at UCLA, was selected to receive a five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for his research on retinal ganglion cell signaling regulated by intrinsic reactive oxygen species.
Annual Luminaires Benefit Raises Over $150,000 for Doheny
This past spring, over 230 Luminaires members and guests gathered at The California Club for their Spring Benefit, “Everything’s Coming Up Roses”.
A pre-luncheon reception featured opportunity baskets and a shopping boutique, while guests were treated to a fashion show featuring clothes from Pearls of San Marino and Balboa Island.
Doheny Eye Institute CEO Marissa Goldberg and Chief Scientific Officer Deborah A. Ferrington, PhD, mixed and mingled with guests at the event to share more about the latest news, updates and ongoing innovative research taking place at Doheny.
The event was covered by local news outlets Pasadena Now, the San Marino Tribune, and Outlook Pasadena.
Since its founding in 1975, the Luminaires have raised over $8.5 million in support of Doheny Eye Institute.
The entire Doheny team is greatly appreciative of Luminaires President Fran Biles, benefit chair Hilary Crahan, as well as Nancy Hulick, Winnie Reitnouer, Lynda Patton, Nancy Twist, and Melinda Woodruff who helped plan the event. A very special thanks to all the members and event supporters whose contributions help Doheny further advance innovative diagnostics, treatments, and therapies to cure eye disease.
